Sean Paul Forced to Cancel MLK Concert Appearance

Sean Paul was booked to appear and perform in Brooklyn, New York at the Martin Luther King Jr. Concert Series on Monday, August 24. However, on the advise of his physician, he has been forced to cancel the scheduled appearance.

"I am really disappointed that I will not be able to appear", Sean Paul noted in a statement. Sean Paul has been on an extensive tour of the US in support of his forth album, Imperial Blaze. The promotional tour which has extended for several weeks has taken him across the country for several interviews and appearances. His extensive work scheduled is thought to contribute to the throat problem which led to the cancellation.

"I've been working very hard these last few weeks, to deliver the album to my fans. I was looking forward to performing the new tracks in Brooklyn," Sean Paul added. The artiste will be seeking further treatment in the hopes of resuming the promotional tour in short order.

Fellow Caribbean superstar and friend, Machel Montano and his band will be performing in Brooklyn in place of Sean Paul who is expected to return to the MLK Concert Series stage next year.

SEAN PAUL

Sean Paul's 1996 release of "Baby Girl" was the first of a series of undeniable reggae smashes that rocked Jamaica, quickly establishing a solid base for Sean Paul amongst the island's dancehall massive.

Part of the wave of mid-nineties Jamaican deejays that brought new blood into the Jamaican music scene, Sean Paul quickly pulled to the front of the pack. Hardcore dancehall fans were captured by his songwriting and rapping skills and Sean rapidly became a favorite with ladies in the audience.

As his reputation grew in Jamaica, the rest of the Caribbean quickly picked up on Sean Paul's sound.

Soon Jamaicans in Miami, New York and London knew the words "Dutty Yeah" were a signal to hit the dance floor. Record-breaking airplay on American hip-hop radio followed, and the success of STAGE ONE, Sean Paul's 2000 smash debut album, established him as VP Records best selling current artist.

THE MIGHTY SPARROW

The Mighty Sparrow (A.K.A. Dr. Slinger Francisco) is affectionately known as the Calypso King of the World. He possesses the unique ability not only to put into words and tempo the exploits of society, but to crown it all with showmanship and appeal.

With over 70 albums to his credit, Sparrow's astute social and political observations find full expression on songs like "This is Madness," "Both of Them," "Crown Heights Justice" and "Salvation." He has brought honor, glory and dignity to an indigenous art form once scorned by the elite of Caribbean society. He utilizes the medium he masters not just to entertain but also to edify, enlighten and educate.
