 | SEAN PAUL
Dancehall and hip hop superstar Sean Paul is a New York favorite. After releasing
a string of hits in his native Jamaica, he broke onto the U.S. scene with 1999's
"Here Comes the Boom," which was featured on the soundtrack to the motion
picture Belly, and "Hot Gal Today," which broke the Top Ten on Billboard's rap
charts. Sean Paul played New York's Summer Jam concert in 2000, the same year
he released his VP Records debut, Stage One. The album featured hits singles and
fresh tracks. Two years later, he released Dutty Rock, a danceable hit that featured
the best of his sing-jay style—and his now-famous single "Gimme the Light." A
2003 reissue of the album included "Baby Boy," his collaboration with pop legend
Beyoncé. Sean Paul's follow up, Trinity, came out in 2005, and his Imperial Blaze
was released in 2009. |
THE MIGHT SPARROW
The Mighty Sparrow (a.k.a. Dr. Slinger Francisco) is affectionately
known as the Calypso King of the World. He possesses
the unique ability not only to put into words and
tempo the exploits of society, but to crown it all with showmanship
and appeal. With more than 70 albums to his credit,
Sparrow's astute social and political observations find full
expression on songs like "This is Madness," "Both of
Them," "Crown Heights Justice" and "Salvation." He has
brought honor, glory and dignity to an indigenous art form
once scorned by the elite of Caribbean society.
